In March 2010 Wheatley Windmill Restoration Society became Wheatley Windmill Preservation Society, as restoration work was more or less complete. Now the emphasis is on maintaining the mill and the occasional milling of Wheatley Flour.
The Wheatley Windmill Restoration Society was founded in 1976 as a voluntary society with annual or life members by subscription. The Society achieved charitable status in February 2000, making it eligible to apply for funds to trusts that will only give to charitable bodies. In 2010, the Society's work was rewarded with the prestigious "Oxford Preservation Trust Award". For more information on the history of the Society, see the article below on financial support.
We are happy to announce that on 16th June 2012 the Wheatley Windmill at last milled flour for the first time in nearly 100 years. Wheatley Flour is now available on Open Days. We now have some bread making recipes - see below.
