Welcome to Wheatley Windmill

Newsletter - March 2007

We have had a mixed year since our last meeting. Most of you will know that our millwright, Christopher Wallis, sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. Our long-time benefactor and committee member, Sir John Miller, also passed on during the year. Such losses are impossible to make good but, as Christopher and Sir John would have wished, we have picked up the reins and moved on. We have been most fortunate in retaining the services of Christopher's friend and fellow millwright, David Empringham. Last summer David produced a one-year plan for getting the mill sails completed. We are now half way through that year and also half way through the plans! The intention is to install the sails by July and have celebrations during this August. This should be a great achievement made all the more wonderful as it would coincide with Len Cripps' 100th birthday. If the August celebration goes ahead it will be well advertised locally and on this web site. Do come and support us as loyally as you have in the past. Finally, as postage is becoming more and more expensive, the Committee is considering complementing our local advertising by placing future newsletters in the Restoration Society Section of this web site, but if any members would like to continue receiving a printed copy, do please let us know.

Yours sincerely,
David Hughes
Honorary Secretary
