

Finial
At the apex of the Cap is the Finial. This a large
deocrative ball made from solid oak. This type of cap decoration was rather common in the Oxfordshire area.
It is worth noting that the current Finial is not the original. The original was made from elm and was hit by lightening in the 1930s,
when the new cap was contructed it was too decayed to be reused. The following picture shows the old and new Finials side by side.
